Fire Rescue Departments from Miami-Dade join forces on ''CPR Day Miami''

 


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

The Fire Officers Association of Miami-Dade (FOAM-D) composed of Coral Gables, Hialeah, Homestead, Key Biscayne, Miami, Miami Beach and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Departments will be participating in the announcement of ''CPR Day Miami'' press conference at Jackson Memorial Hospital on Sept. 4, 2014 at 10 a.m.

Jackson Health System, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the University of Miami, in collaboration with the American Red Cross of Greater Miami & The Keys and the American Heart Association, are hosting ''CPR Day Miami,'' a free, countywide CPR training event for participants 11 years of age and older, on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at seven locations.

The importance of knowing how to perform CPR made international headlines in February 2014 when then five-month-old Sebastian de la Cruz stopped breathing in the backseat of his aunt’s car. His aunt, Pamela Rauseo, performed lifesaving CPR on Sebastian on the side of a busy Miami expressway – as a Miami Herald photographer captured dramatic images of the harrowing ordeal. Sebastian was rushed to Holtz Children’s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. Today, Sebastian is healthy, happy and getting ready to celebrate his first birthday in September.

''The goal of this initiative is for everyone to learn CPR,'' said Chief Marcos Osorio, FOAM-D President.  The Fire Officers Association of Miami-Dade (FOAMD), previously named the Dade County Fire Chiefs Association, was established in 1955.  The purpose of the FOAMD organization is to provide a forum for all the fire rescue departments within Miami-Dade County to exchange ideas and information, initiate or support projects that enhance our fire and emergency medical services, and formulate best practices. FOAMD is governed by the Board of Fire Department Directors.
